Donal O’Dwyer, Chairman

Donal O’Dwyer relocated to Australia after retiring as Worldwide President of Cordis Cardiology, the cardiology division of Johnson & Johnson subsidiary. Under his leadership, Cordis Cardiology became the dominant leader in the global stent marketplace, launching the revolutionary Cypher drug eluting coronary stent, which increased global sales from US$500 million to US$2 billion in three years’ time. Prior to joining Cordis, O’Dwyer spent a number of years with Baxter Healthcare, rising from plant manager in Ireland to President of the Cardiovascular Group, Europe. He brings a wealth of medical device experience to Endoluminal Sciences and serves as the Chairman of the Board.

 

Dr. Michael Skalsky, Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

Dr. Mike Skalsky has a PhD in Chemical/Biomedical Engineering and an executive MBA from the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia. Under his leadership at the global implantable pacemaker company Telectronics, several of his patented inventions were developed into FDA approved medical devices. He has served as the Deputy Director and Commercial Manager of the Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) for Cardiac Technology. He left the CRC to found a spin off biomaterials company, Elastomedic Pty Ltd (now Aortech Biomaterials) which he took to a successful trade sale to AIM/LSE listed AorTech International. He held the position of Managing Director of that company.
Subsequently he founded Sci2Rx Pty Ltd, a product development, commercialisation and contract management consultancy, with a particular focus on medical device ventures. He has worked with numerous publically and privately funded Client organisations to provide the full spectrum of strategic and operational advice on development and commercialisation of a range of medical devices. Prior to Endoluminal Sciences, he has served as the founding CEO of Lighthouse Technologies, an aesthetic laser device venture.

 

Ashish Mitra, Founder and Chief Technology Officer (CTO)

Ashish Mitra has completed his post graduate training in Mechanical Engineering at Stanford University, with specialization in Bioengineering (Medical Devices) and Design for Manufacturability. Passionate about medical device engineering he has developed technical expertise in the field of aortic, cardiac and peripheral vascular stent technologies at the Research and Development Groups of Medtronic Vascular, Santa Rosa, CA and Medtronic Structural Heart Disease, Santa Ana, CA. His experience spans the full spectrum of medical technology development from conception to successful PMA approvals. A creative inventor, he has an expanding IP portfolio, his ideas having received several recognitions including awards from the J.F. Lincoln Foundation, U.S.A. and the Indian National Academy of Engineers, India. He also has a keen didactic inclination and is currently serving as an Honorary Associate Lecturer at the Biomedical Engineering Department, University of Sydney, Australia.

 

Dr. Martin Ng, Founder and Chief Medical Officer (CMO)

Dr. Martin Ng, MD PhD, is an interventional cardiologist who has completed his fellowship training at Stanford University Medical Centre. Originally from Australia, he graduated with First Class Honours in Medicine from the University of Sydney prior to completing a PhD on the molecular biology of early coronary artery disease. His research has garnered numerous awards and honours including the Royal Australasian College of Physicians' Young Investigator of the Year in 2001 and selection to the American Heart Association Late- Breaking Basic Sciences Sessions for innovative, important and novel science in 2002. Dr Ng's core long term interests are focussed on bench-to-bedside innovation within interventional cardiology, including therapeutic angiogenesis and novel cardiovascular device related treatments for atherosclerosis.

 

Dr. Steve Gourlay, Director

Dr Steve Gourlay is a partner at GBS Ventures Partners, Australia’s largest life sciences venture firm. He has more than 15 years experience in drug and medical device development (Monash University, University of California, San Francisco, Genentech, Life Science Angels). At Genentech he contributed to the preclinical and clinical sections of successful new drug applications for Xolair™, Avastin™, and Raptiva™ and supervised six IND applications. Steve is on the board of directors of four medical device companies in Sydney and is a licensed consultant physician in Internal & Vascular Medicine. He received his PhD in Medicine from Monash University (clinical epidemiology, clinical trial methodology), his postdoc from UCSF (Phase I studies) and his MBA from Macquarie University
